The St. Paul Indians football team, led by head coach Keith Wiatrak, has been named the Craw-Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week from the Southeast Kansas area with their 37-18 victory over Sedan on Thursday.
The win put the Indians into the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2003-2004. Keaton Kennedy led the charge with 128 yards rushing, while Braven Born picked up 79 yards rushing for SP. St. Paul had 266 rushing yards in the contest as a team. Foreign exhange student, Alejandro Mate, also highlighted the night as he kicked a 39-yard field goal in the contest. The kick was seen across the Sports in Kansas twitter/instagagram feeds on Thursday night and became quite popular, as it's pretty uncommon to see field goals in the 8-man ranks. Gage Girk of South Central (Coldwater, KS) has the longest 8-man kick in the country this year at 46 yards. Mate's kick definitely had that range.
St. Paul will be back in action in the 8M-I playoffs this Friday as they travel to take on the Central Burden Raiders (5-4) on the road in the first round. St. Paul is 8-1 on the year with a 4-0 record in the Three Rivers League. SP only loss came to the district champion, West Elk Patriots.
Craw-Kan “Your Technology Partner" and Sports in Kansas will once again be in partnership over the 2017-2018 school year to release a "Craw-Kan Team of the Week".
