The Nex-Tech Wireless Central Kansas Athlete of the Month for their performance over the month of September is Pratt junior running back Travis Theis. It marks the second time Theis has received this honor in the last two football seasons.
Theis is near the leaders in Kansas in rushing yardage for 2017 with 982 yards on 106 carries this season, good for an average of over nine yards per carry. Theis has also scored 16 rushing touchdowns and has rushed for 100 or more in all five of his games. His biggest game came in week one where he rushed for 437 yards and six touchdowns in the shootout victory win over Larned (56-46). The junior rushed for over 1,900 yards last year as a sophomore in leading the Greenbacks to the 4A-II state title, the first state football title in Pratt since 1995 (4A).
Not only has Theis been outstanding so has his team in a 5-0 start to the 2017 season. They are coming off a 35-28 win over rival Hoisington last week and have now won 13 games a row. The Greenbacks, led by head coach Jamie Cruce, will be back in action this week on the road against Halstead.
