The Nex-Tech Wireless Athlete of the Month (AOM) for Western Kansas for their play over the month of October is Stockton senior linebacker Joel Green.
Green, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 170 pounds, put together one of the best seasons in the state statisticsally on defense in 2016. He registered 198 tackles (19.8 tackles per game) this season for the 8M-II Tigers, who made the playoffs for the first time since 2002. Stockton went 4-0 over the month of October with victories over Thunder Ridge, Wilson, Northern Valley, and Lakeside. In the 54-48 win over Thunder Ridge, Green racked up 36 tackles in a single game. The 36 tackles in that game are believed to be the highest total in a game in Kansas this season. Green also got it done this season on offense as he had over 500 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns this year.
Stockton finished the season at 4-6 after making the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. The Tigers, led by Phil Conyac, lost in the first round of the 8M-II playoffs to Sharon Springs-Wallace County, 48-18.
