The Northeast Kansas Athlete of the Month from Rainbow Communications is Riverside High School senior quarterback Kobe Davis.
Davis, a 5-foot-10, 155-pound, sophomore, has put up some huge numbers so far in 2019. He has passed for 1,288 yards this season with 17 scores. Davis has completed 82 of 159 passes this season for a 52 percent completion percentage. His favorite targets have been Isaac Webb (419 yards 6 TD) and Bradley Libel (250 6 TD). Riverside is coming off a 55-0 victory over Horton in week seven and has clinched a spot in the 2A playoffs. They get Pleasant Ridge (3-4) this week in the final district game of the season.
The most impressive thing is that Riverside is also 5-2 this season under first year head coach Bryce Paden. Last season they went 2-7 and the season before also 2-7. In 2016 they also went 3-6, so this could be the first shot for seniors to have a winning season at Riverside High School in football. Their only losses have came to traditionally very good programs in back to back 3A champ Sabetha and Nemaha Central last week. Riverside, a consolidation of Elwood and Wathena, is 1-3 all-time in the Kansas playoffs with three playoff apperances.
