Sports in Kansas has released its 2019 All-State Baseball Team. Selections were finalized by Chet Kuplen of Sports in Kansas with input from several media members in Kansas, this is not the coaches association team or just its members. Teams were also selected after the conclusion of the season. While the selection process is never perfect we encourage cooperation throughout the season with info/stats sent into Sports in Kansas at sportsinkansas@gmail.com.

2019 Sports in Kansas 3A Baseball Player of the Year

Joseph Gruber, Sabetha, IF/P Sr.

Gruber has helped Sabetha earn back-to-back championships in football and baseball. The 6-foot, 200-pound Gruber will be attending Northwest Missouri where he hopes to play baseball next season. He reached base in every single game as a Bluejay, collected Class 3A Player of the Year and was unanimous first team all-state shortstop by the Kansas Baseball Coaches. Gruber batted .519 with a .627 on-base percentage with two homers, 20 RBI and 39 runs scored and 19 stolen bases. On the mound, Gruber was 5-0 with a 2.29 earned-run average and a 51/17 strikeout to walk ratio with 36.2 innings. Teammate Gabe Garber was the SIK 3A Player of the Year last spring.

Community National Bank would like to congratulate Coach Frey and Joseph Gruber on Sports in Kansas Player of the Year honors in 2019. Congrats to the back to back state champion Sabetha Bluejays! We are proud of you!

Keim Trucking is proud to support the Sabetha Bluejays. Congrats to the 3A State Baseball Champions in 2018 and 2019!

2019 Sports in Kansas 3A Baseball Pitcher of the Year

Jace Kaminska, Caney Valley, Jr.
Kaminska, a junior and Wichita State commit, has earned Pitcher of the Year in back-to-back seasons. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Kaminska has collected Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year and earned several other accolades in his career, including honorable mention All-American by Perfect Game. Kaminska, who throws 88 to 92 miles an hour, worked 32 innings and didn’t allow a single earned run. He struck out 85 with three walks, seven hits and five unearned runs allowed. He set a state record with 29 consecutive strikeouts. Kaminska’s 0.00 ERA tied Shawnee Mission East’s Joey Wentz (2016) for the only perfect ERAs in state history, according to the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame. Wentz is currently pitching in the Atlanta Braves organization. As well, he batted .511 (24 of 47) with 11 doubles, a triple, two homers, 13 walks, 17 RBI, 24 runs scored and a .629 on-base percentage.

2019 Sports in Kansas 3A Coach of the Year

Aaron Frey, Sabetha, 3A State Champs

Frey, who just completed his third season, has collected back-to-back 3A Coach of the Year honors. This spring, Sabetha went 21-3 and defeated Baxter Springs (6-5), Minneapolis (9-5) and top-seeded St. George Rock Creek (10-4) in a delayed tournament that finished up Monday. In the final, Sabetha led 5-0 early and 10-2. Last year, Sabetha finished 22-3 and defeated Thomas More Prep-Marian, 10-5. Frey, formerly at Andover Central, had previously coached at Sabetha from 1997-99.
