The Labette Bank Athlete of the Month from the Southeast Kansas coverage are is Labette County High School senior guard Tristan Gegg.
Gegg is no stranger to the Labette Bank Athlete of the Month as she has recieved the nod before in her career. What's different about this time is the fact that she is now over 2,000 career points. She is the only player in Southeast Kansas League (SEK) history to score 2,000 points over a basketball career, boys or girls. Gegg is also on her way to being a four-time all-state selection in all-classes of Kansas as well as 4A-I. The Grizzlies have also made the state tournament, under head coach Kristi Snider, four conecutive seasons with Gegg as the leading scorer. To put in perspective of how elite 2,000 points is, Gegg is the only active player in Kansas with over 2,000 on the boys or girls.
She is not done yet as she has one state tournament left as LCHS will open up the 4A-I state tournament in Salina on Wednesday at 6:30 pom as they take on the seventh seed Welling Crusaders (14-8). LCHS is the two seed and has a 21-1 record entering state tournament play. A win over Wellington would put the Grizzlies into the semifinals on Friday against either McPherson (20-1) or Augusta (15-6).
Labette Bank would like to congratulate Gegg on an oustanding career and wish the LCHS Grizzly Boys and Girls best of luck at the 4A-I state tournament in Salina this weekend!
