Now that our friends at Kansas Pregame have released their 2017 edition digitally, we can officially announce that Derek Livingston has been awarded the Grand Prize for the 2016 Kpreps Friday Night Photo Contest.

Livingston’s winning photo captures Mill Valley quarterback Brody Flaming’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Evan Rice in double overtime to tie Goddard 34-34 in the Class 5A state championship game. Jack Matchette would convert the ensuing extra point to propel the Jaguars to a 35-34 victory and their second consecutive Class 5A state title.

“The Friday Night Photo Contest has played such important role in allowing Kpreps to tell the story of each high school football season,” said Kpreps’ Managing Partner Andy Wachter. “There are many talented photographers around our state, and we enjoy providing a platform for sharing their photos with the entire Kansas high school football community.”

“Each year it is a real challenge to select a winning photograph,” said Kpreps’ Managing Partner Matt Gilmore. “Even in selecting weekly winners…we receive so many great photos that to be nominated as a weekly winner should be considered quite an accomplishment.”

“But we feel the magnitude of that moment in the 2016 state title game really makes Derek’s photo special,” Gilmore said. “We hope to continue to see the growth and success of the photo contest during the 2017 season.”

Livingston wins $500 cash for his 2016 winning photograph. The winning photo was announced and featured (page 33) in the 2017 edition of Kansas Pregame Magazine. Livingston also was selected as the photographer for the cover photo shoot of Kansas Pregame’s 2017 edition.
