The Labette Bank Athlete of the Month from the Southeast Kansas coverage area is Girard High School senior girls basketball player, Ashley Ray.

Ray, a 6-foot-5 senior, who has signed to play at Kansas State, was a first team all-classifications and All 4A-II selection from Sports in Kansas this season. Ray led the Lady Trojans to their first ever state championship in any sport, boys or girls, in the history of the high school. She was also selected as the 4A-II Player of the Year from Sports in Kansas. Ray was 20-of-30 from the field in three state tournament games for 14.3 points per game, but really where she stood out was defensively where she has led the Trojans in rebounds and blocks over the past four seasons. Ray's most impressive performance was the opening round of the 2017 4A-II tournament over Topeka-Hayden where she had 19 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists, and seven blocks.

Girard (24-1), led by head coach Brad Herlocker, was also paced this season by senior all-state selection Calea Augustin, junior all-state selection Sydnee Crain, and senior All-CNC selection Olivia Hanson.
