Troy High School senior wide receiver Brody Winder has been named the Rainbow Communications Northeast Kansas Athlete of the Month for his play over the month of November.
Everyone knew about Cuttar Huss coming into the last two football seasons as they should have as Huss finished as a three time all-state selection, but it was Winder who stepped up in 2016 to compliment Huss by making it the best WR duo in the smaller classes of Kansas this year. Winder had a breakout campaign in 2016, where he had over 1,000 yards receiving, but saved his best game for last. The senior caught five passes for 207 yards in the 28-24 2-1A championship win over Plainville in the state title game in Hays on Saturday November 26th. Giving the Trojans of Troy, under head coach Derek Jasper, their first ever state football title. Winder's 82 yard touchdown reception from Reid Greaser near the end of the third quarter was the difference in the ballgame. Winder also had a 61 yard touchdown reception in the game, giving him two touchdowns in the title game. Winder finished eighth in all classes of receiving yardage this season with 1,157. His teammate, Cuttar Huss, finished fourth with 1,253. The duo combined for 2,410 yards, the second most for two recievers on the same team in Kansas this season, edged out by Jafar Armstromg and Landry Weber of 4A-I Bishop Miege (2,437 yards)
