Hiawatha sophomore Elizabeth Kettler has been named the Rainbow Communications Athlete of the Month for her performances over Ocober from Northeast Kansas for her second place finish in the 3A state cross country championships back on October 29th.
Kettler, who won the 3200 in 3A last spring as a freshman in 11:49.13, finished with a second place time of 19:23.8 at the 3A cross country state championship. Kettler was six seconds behind the state championship winner, senior, Celia Biel of Hutchinson Trinity. Kettler took fifth as a freshman this time last year at state cross country in 2015. The Hiawatha sophomore will be one of the top returnees in the state for distance this spring in 3A.
Not only did Kettler have a big day at the 3A championships, her team also took second. Hiawatha finished runner-up behind state champion, Hugoton. Other top 50 finishers for Hiawatha were Emma Williams finishing 25th, Mary Rosa taking 30th, while Aly Shamburg took 47th.
