Craw-Kan Team of the Week: Pittsburg Purple Dragons

Pittsburg Volleyball has earned Craw-Kan weekly honors.

The Pittsburg High School volleyball team, led by head coch Megan Mantooth, has been named the Craw-Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week after the Dragons punched their ticket to the 5A state volleyball tournament for the first time in 13 years. 

Pittsburg beat Liberal in opening round by winning two out of three (23-25, 25-19, 25-22), then beat Maize in the championship in two sets (27-25, 25-16) to earn a berth to the 5A state tournament. 

Pittsburg senior Taylor Muff, a multiple sport all-state athlete that has committed to play divison one volleyball at Northern Colorado, led the Dragons with 29 total kills in their two matches. Muff also had four blocks and seven digs in the match against Liberal. Abbie Casper led the Purple Dragons with 60 total assists in the five total sets against Liberal and Maize. Kaydn Matlock also picked up four blocks against Liberal and had eight kills each against Liberal in the semis and Maize in the sub-state championship. 

Pittsburg (35-5) is the three seed and will play in Pool II at the 5A state volleyball tournament starting this Friday in Topeka at the Kansas Expocentre. Also in Pol II with PHS: 2. Goddard-Eisenhower (36-5), 7. St. Thomas Aquinas (31-10), and 6. Emporia (28-8). Pool I of the tournament includes: 1. Newton (38-4) 8. St. James Academy (23-15), 4. Lansing (33-5), 5. Shawnee Heights (33-6). Pittsburg's first match will be Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Emporia. Pool and Bracket play here


Craw-Kan “Your Technology Partner" and Sports in Kansas will once again be in partnership over the 2016-2017 school year to release a "Craw-Kan Team of the Week". 

"I am again excited for this partnership with Craw-Kan and highlighting teams from the SEK area to not only a local platform but also giving them statewide reach on our network," said Sports in Kansas Managing Partner, Chet Kuplen. "Not only does this help athletes and teams to be promoted for their achievements, it also lets the area know what all the new products that Craw-Kan has to offer, including new gigabit fiber now in the the area. Also that Craw-Kan is now in Frontenac and Pittsburg” 

"Craw-Kan offers all your technology needs in the area from internet to web design and cell phones to security systems." said Craw-Kan Marketing Manager, Zach Adams. "We have a lot of new products including the fastest internet in the area in the new gigabit fiber, we are also in Frontenac and Pittsburg with our service. We are very excited with all the new products we have to offer to the area."

Nominations will be accepted from every Friday-Sunday, with the "Craw-Kan Team of the Week" being released every Monday on Sports in Kansas (Kansas-Sports.com). Teams must be nominated via email or twitter. 

Teams must be from the following leagues in the Southeast Kansas area to be eligible: SEK, CNC, TRL

Craw-Kan and Sports in Kansas will also partner in releasing a "All Craw-Kan Team" for the Southeast Kansas area after postseason play has wrapped up.
