The Nex-Tech Wireless Athlete of the Month (AOM) for Central Kansas for their play over the month of September is Great Bend senior Jacob Murray.

Murray, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound, dual-threat quarterback, is having one of the best seasons offensively in Kansas. Murray has accounted for 351.8 total yards per game as the signal caller for the Panthers in 2016. He has 1,002 passing and 757 rushing after ther first five weeks. He has acccounted for 26 total touchdowns. Murray has shown the ability to buy time with his legs, but the most impressive thing is his accuracy this season as he has completed 70 percent of his passes. Murray is coming off a huge performance in last Friday's 42-21 win over 6A Wichita West in which he rushed for five total touchdowns and 182 yards on the ground, he also threw for 123 more in the contest.

Great Bend has been much more than just Murray this season. A lot of credit needs to be given to the offensive line which has helped the Panthers get to 482.6 yards per game in 2016 to rank fourth in all classifications of Kansas. They also have one of the top recievers in the state in Bryce Lytle and feature tackling machine Payton Mauler at the linebacker to lead the defense. Lytle has 526 yards at reciever while Mauler has 74 stops on defense.

Great Bend (5-0, 2-0 WAC), led by first year head coach Erin Beck, is currently the #3 ranked 5A team in the state by Kpreps and will take on 6A opponent Wichita East (2-3) on the road Friday.
