The Pittsburg High Purple Dragons, led by head coach Tom Nickelson, has earned the Craw-Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week for their week four 28-0 homecoming victory over rival Fort Scott on Friday night in Pittsburg.
The Dragons led 7-0 at halftime before scoring 21 second half points. PHS racked up 268 yards of total offense in the game and were led by junior quarterback Chase Curtis who had 128 passing yards with a touchdown and senior Elijah Harris who had 80 receiving yards. Senior Noah Vaughn led the rushing attack with 64 yards on the ground. Deveron Duncan, a senior defensive lineman, also had a 35 yard interception return for touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Dragons also got touchdowns from junior Jhalin Long and junior Drew Roelfs.
Pittsburg, who is no longer part of the Southeast Kansas League in football, improved to 2-2 on the season. They have not allowed a point scored against Kansas competition through four weeks. The only two losses Pittsburg has suffered came to Missouri opponents, Harrisvonville (28-7) in week one, and Webb City (28-7) in week three, both squads that were ranked when PHS played them in Missouri Class 4. The Dragons will be at home this Friday as they host Andover Central (4A-I). Andover Central was the 4A-I state runner-up last fall but has started this season with a 0-4 record.
