Pittsburg junior Kayne Hutchison has been named the Labette Bank Athlete of the Month from the Southeast Kansas area for his performance on the mat over the month of February by capturing the 5A state wrestling title at 220 pounds in Park City on February 27th.

Hutchison, a junior at PHS, went 4-0 at the 5A state tournament and captured the title with a 10-3 victory over Brett Yeagley of Shawnee Heights in the championship finals. Hutchinson, who was also an All-Area and All-League football player this past fall as a junior for the Dragons, finished the season at 19-3.

Hutchison wasn't the only Dragon to finish with a 5A state medal in late February as fellow junior Dylan Prince took second at 195, junior Deveron Duncan took third at 285 and junior Joseph Tallie took sixth at 152.

Pittsburg, led by head coach Scott Rieck, finished as the SEK League Champion in 2016 and took seventh at the 5A state meet.
