The St. Mary's Colgan girls basketball team, led by head coach Abby Farabi, punched their ticket to the 2A state tournament with a 32-25 victory over Uniontown in Saturday's Sub-State Championship game in Sedan. The Panthers have now made the state tourney in Manhattan the last three consecutive years. For their efforts, they have been named the Craw-Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week from the Southeast Kansas area.

Colgan, who entered sub-state play with the four seed, opened up with a 46-20 quarterfinal win over Udall on Monday. That put the Panthers in a semi-final match-up on Thursday with number one seed Sedan. The Panthers knocked off the Blue Devils, who had only one loss entering the game, by three on their home court (43-40). That put the Panthers in the championship game where they rallied late and knocked off #2 seed Uniontown (32-25). Marci Van Beceleare led the Panthers with eight points, while Haydn Dawson, Sydney Russel and Aubri Piccini all had six a piece.

The Panthers (14-9) will open up 2A state tournament play at Bramlage Coliseum at 3 pm on Wednesday in Manhattan as the eight seed as they take on the one seeded Oilers of Central Plains. Central Plains, formerly Claflin and Bushton/Quviria Heights who consolidated a few years back, have won the last two consecutive 2A titles and are undefeated on the season at 23-0.
