Craw-Kan Team of the Week: Pittsburg Girls Basketball

Pittsburg girls picked up two wins last week to earn Craw-Kan Team of the Week honors.

The Pittsburg High Purple Dragon girls basketball team, led by first year head coach Eric Flaton, picked up two key SEK league wins last week over Fort Scott on Tuesday and 4A-I #6 Labette County on Friday to earn the Craw-Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week from the Southeast Kansas area.

The Dragons knocked off Fort Scott at home on Tuesday by a score of 52-38. Ashlee Beitzinger led the Dragon offensive attack with 16 points with 12 of those coming in the first half. Taylor Muff also chipped in 12 points for PHS in Tuesday's win. On Friday, the Dragons picked up their biggest win of the season by knocking off previously undefeated Labette County in Altamont by a score of 62-51. The Dragon defense limited the all-state combo of Tristan Gegg and Erica Gartner to just 31 combined points for Labette County, including 14 from Gegg who was averaging over 22 points per game. Four Dragon girls scored in double figures with Muff leading the way with 19 points, Beitzinger with 11, Mary Garrett with 11 and Abbie Casper adding 10. Logan Lord also added seven points including four clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter. 

Pittsburg (8-2, 5-1 SEK League) will open up tournament play at home this week in the first annual Border Classic as they take on Atchison Thursday night.

Nominations will be accepted from every Friday-Sunday, with the "Craw-Kan Team of the Week" being released every Monday on Sports in Kansas (Kansas-Sports.com). Teams must be nominated via email or twitter. 

Teams must be from the following leagues in the Southeast Kansas area to be eligible: SEK, CNC, TRL

Craw-Kan and Sports in Kansas will also partner in releasing a "All Craw-Kan Team" for the Southeast Kansas area after postseason play has wrapped up.
