The St. Mary's Colgan boys basketball team, led by head coach Wayne Cichon, has been named the Craw-Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week after their 42-33 victory over Carthage (MO) on Friday night at the SMC Fieldhouse in Pittsburg.
Colgan, who plays 2A in Kansas, knocked off a Tiger team that plays 4A basketball (5A football) in Missouri. To give you an idea based on enrollment figures, SMC has 156 students to Carthage who has over 1,200 students. That would make the Tigers a large 5A program in the state of Kansas. Colgan led just 19-17 before taking control in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers were led by a big night from senior Garrett Normand who scored 18 points in the contest, 13 of those coming in the first half. Logan VanBecelaere also added nine points for Colgan.
The Panthers went 2-0 this week as they also beat Jasper (MO) on Tuesday 41-23 as Normand led the charge with nine points.
Colgan (2-1) will host McDonald County (MO) on Tuesday in another out of state non-conference matchup.
