Frontenac, led by head football coach Mark Smith, has been named the Craw-Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week from Sports in Kansas for their 38-6 victory over Girard in the opening round of the 4A-II playoffs on Friday.
The Raiders, who were the visiting team in the contest and beat Girard in Frontenac earlier this season, were led by junior quarterback Brandon Mlekus, who passed for 143 yards and added another 105 on the ground with two scores. Mlekus has led the Raiders all season as he has passed for 1,672 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 770 and 11 touchdowns as a first year starter in 2015. Junior Cadin Bollinger also had 98 yards for the Raiders in the game and a score. Junior Dylan Flora led the Raiders with two catches for 47 yards in the contest. Senior Ryan Menghini, who is also one of the key blockers for the offensive attack, added two scores on the ground and Issac Bicknell added a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter.
The Raider defense, led by pressure all night from sophomore Broc Ginavan and senior Nicco Province, held Girard to just 55 yards rushing in the contest. Senior Luten Warrick also picked up an interception in the contest for the Raiders.
Frontenac will host Holton this Friday in the second round of the playoffs.
