In what many called a game that would be dead even heading on paper last Friday, turned out it wasn't the case. Girard opened off the 2015 campaign with a 14-0 lead at half before knocking off the Riverton Rams 20-6 in week one of the football season.
The Trojans (1-0, 1-0 CNC), who finished 4-6 last season, started the year off on the right foot last Friday and earned Craw-Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week for their play. Friday's win helped make up for last years 21-9 loss to the Rams in week one.
Girard had 206 total rushing yards on the night as a team. They were led by Trey Eaton who had 101 yards rushing, including two rushing touchdowns and a recieving touchdown. Quarterback Eric Wilson rushed for 52 and added 50 more (1 TD) through the air. Girard defense limited Riverton in the passing game holding them to just two completions.
The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Trojans in CNC league play as they take on Galena at home this Friday. Galena opened up the 2015 season on Thursday with a 7-0 victory over Colgan. Girard lost to Galena 36-6 last year on the road in week two.
