Tristan Speer, recent graduate of Troy High School, has been named the Rainbow Communications Athlete of the Month for his play in the month of July.

Speer, who played in the 42nd annual Kansas Shrine Bowl, helped lead the East to a 21-0 victory of the West on July 25th in Hays. Speer tossed an 84 yard touchdown pass to Dalton Schoen of Blue Valley Northwest in the third quarter for the games last score.

"The touchdown was a great feeling. I felt it was one of the bigger plays in the game and I saw pre-snap that we had good leverage on the right side. I saw pressure coming off the edge so I dropped back, stepped up in the pocket and took a shot and let it fly. Schoen made a great play on the ball and took it for six." Speer said.

Speer put up huge numbers for Troy in 2014 and earned 2-1A offensive player of the year from Sports in Kansas after helping the Trojans to the state semifinals. Although he may have only passed for 89 yards in the Shrine Bowl, he had arguably the top play of the night. In all-star games playing time is hard to come by with the amount of players splitting time by position. Although his stats weren't what they were in a typical game for Troy in 2014, he walked away with an experience he will never forget.

"The Shrine Bowl is a blast. You meet so many people that you become close with just in nine days. Meeting the kids is really a life changer and realizing how easy we all really have it. At the end of the day it's not about the game, it's about raising money for future children in need. I will remember this for the rest of my life." Speer said.

Speer, who also wont two consecutive state wrestling championships in 2-1A at Troy, will play football this fall at Highland Community College.

Rainbow Communications congratulates Tristan Speer on an outstanding high school career at Troy High School.
