The Labette Bank Athlete of the Month chosen from the Southeast Kansas area by Sports in Kansas for the month of May is St. Paul High School junior, Jenny O'Bryan.

O'Bryan, a junior distance runner in track and field, captured two individual state championships at the state outdoor track and field championships on May 29th and 30th. O'Bryan won the 1600 meters and the 3200 meters in Class 1A. O'Bryan's time of 11:26 in the 3200 this season at the state meet wasn't her fastest of the year, but it was the fastest time in 1A at the state meet since 1983. It was also the third fastest wining time ever ran in 1A at the state meet.

O'Bryan's 3200 title marked the second consecutive year she has won in 1A. She also is the state cross country champion in 1A over the last two seasons. She now has five combined individual titles in track and field/cross country with one full season remaining. Not bad for someone who doesn't even have a track to practice on as St. Paul High School doesn't have a track and field facility.

O'Bryan's PR time of 11:09 in the 3200 meters this year, which she ran at the Shawnee Mission North Relays, ranked 11th in all classifications in all classes of Kansas for 2015.

The Southeast Kansas area may have featured the states best runners in all classes of Kansas this season. In 1A with O'Bryan capturing three total state titles this year (2x Track/XC), Kaylee Bogina of Northeast-Arma in 3A with two state titles this season in the 3200 and Cross County, and Cailie Logue of Girard, who captured the 4A 1600, 3200 and state cross country last fall. Had Fort Scott's Cassidy Westhoff not been in 4A, then maybe we would have seen a few more titles as she battled Logue all season and had some of Kansas' top times. It's safe to say the competition at every area meet between the girls listed above definitely helped these girls reach their potential this season.

Congrats to Jenny O'Bryan on the May Athlete of the Month Award from Labette Bank. O'Bryan will be the favorite to three-peat as a state champion in cross country this fall.
