The Labette Bank Athlete of the Month chosen by Sports in Kansas for the month of March is Alex Minton of the St. Mary's Colgan High School girls basketball team.

Minton, a first team all 2A selection from Sports in Kansas, averaged 15.5 points per game over the month of March. She scored 19 in her last career high school game against Meade in the 2A state tournament in Manhattan.

Minton wasn't just a factor on the scoreboard in March as she averaged 5.8 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per contest in leading her team to the 2A state tournament.

Minton wasn't only big in March, she was big all season as she helped her team to a 21-3 record in 2014-2015 and an undefeated CNC league title. In addition to all-state honors, she also earned first team all-area from Craw-Kan this season. This is Minton's second honor for Labette Bank Athlete of the Month after earning it back in January of 2014.

Coach Abby Farabi on Minton:

"Alex has been a tremendous player for our program over the past four years. She has grown as a player and a leader and worked extremely hard to become a player that is on every coaches radar/scouting report. She is the full package and a very coachable kid. I have loved having the opportunity to coach her."

The Labette Bank Athlete of the Month chosen by Sports in Kansas for the month of April is Parsons High School senior Isiah Taylor.

Taylor, a high jumper in track and field, registered one of the top jumps in the nation on April 10th by clearing 7'0 at his home meet in Parsons.

His school record jump of 7'0 currently ranks as the seventh best jump in the United States for 2015 and the number one jump in the entire state of Kansas this season for high school boys. If Taylor were to go one more inch (7'1) he would break into the top 20 all-time in the state of Kansas. Can Taylor get above 7'0 and crack into the record books of Kansas history?

"I've jumped over 6'9 at all the meets after my 7'0 jump, so we might see it soon," said Taylor.

Taylor, who features a 37 inch vertical, was also an all-state selection in 4A-II basketball this season for the Vikings who qualified for the state tournament in Park City. He also won the slam dunk contest, which should be no surprise with his leaping ability, at this years ESPN 100.7 SEK All-Star game.

The 4A state meet record, which has to happen at the state meet, is currently 7-01.75 set by Lansing's Dean Herzog back in 1974. The 4A field features eight jumpers who have cleared 6'6 or better in 2014, including Girard junior Drew Davied, who has won the last two 4A state high jump titles. The National leader in high jump this season is only about 75 miles away from Parsons in Sarxocie, MO by Lath Kisling, a junior, with a jump of 7'3.
