Player of the Year

Tate Turner, Independence – 6’2 Senior

Turner was one of Kansas’ best players in 2014-2015 as he averaged over 22 points per game for the Bulldogs. Independence went undefeated all season before losing in the opening round of sub-state, but it didn’t stop Turner from being the best player in the Southeast Kansas area this season. He earned first team all 4A-I and second team all classifications from Sports in Kansas.

Coach of the Year

Rod Wescott, Girard

Wescott led Girard a second consecutive appearance to the 4A-II state tournament in Park City. The Trojans lost in the first round to Osawatomie and finished at 20-3 on the season. Girard went perfect in CNC league play and their only two losses prior to the state tourney were to schools that were 4A-I.

Player of the Year

Tristan Gegg, Labette County – Freshman

Gegg, a sharpshooting guard, averaged over 20 points per game in her first year of high school basketball. She also earned first team all-state in 4A-I and second team all-classes from Sports in Kansas.

Coach of the Year

Abby Farabi, St. Mary’s Colgan

Farabi helped the Panthers to the 2A state tournament in 2014-2015 as her squad finished 21-3. The Panthers only lost one time against competition from Kansas and finished perfect in CNC league play.
