The Pittsburg High Purple Dragons basketball team, led by head coach Kiley Roelfs, has been named the "Craw-Kan Team of the Week" for the week of January 5th-11th for picking up their first and second wins on the season against Joplin on Monday and Chanute on Friday, going 2-1 in three games over the week.
The Dragons would open the new year with a win over Joplin on Monday (46-45), before losing to Parsons on Tuesday by three (54-51). Pittsburg's biggest win would come on Friday as they beat Chanute 53-52 at the buzzer on a three pointer by Adrian Scroggins.
Scroggins finished with a career high 20 points against Chanute on Friday, including six three pointers. Kyle Smith and Jesse Thomas each chipped in eight, while leading scorer Dylan Untereker (15.4 ppg) had six.
The Dragons (2-5, 1-2 SEK) will face Fort Scott on the road Tuesday in a match-up on the two Southeast Kansas League rivals.
