The Uniontown Eagle football squad has been named this weeks "Craw-Kan Team of the Week" from the Southeast Kansas area for their 54-6 road victory over Marmaton Valley on Friday in week six of the football season.

"We were very happy with the win this Friday. I feel like we have yet to play our best football, so we are looking forward to gel as we get into the heart of district." Uniontown head coach, Chad Stroud said.

Uniontown jumped out to 8-6 lead after the first quarter and then exploded for 40 in the second quarter to lead the Wildcats 48-6 at the half. The game was called in the third quarter due to the 45-point rule to make the final score, 54-6.

The Eagles racked up 296 yards rushing on offense and were led by Cole Shafer's 161 rushing yards and three touchdowns. But the real story was the Uniontown defense as they only allowed 37 yards of total offense on the night. John Reed would lead the Eagles with nine tackles and an interception.

"John Reed is our most dynamic weapon on offense and has been limited all season to injury so he has only played defense the past two weeks. Hopefully we can work him into the offensive attack in the future." Stroud said.

Uniontown, who plays in 8-man Division I, improved to 2-0 in district play. The Eagles (4-2) are one of only two teams still unbeaten in the district after Marais des Cygnes Valley beat Waverly, 34-26. Uniontown will host MDCV next Friday night. The top two teams in each district advance. The Eagles two losses came to Madison (then ranked) and Chetopa (8M-II #1).

"We have lost to two very good teams. We were competitive against Madison, actually jumping out to a 16-0 lead in first quarter, before they went on a run on us," Stroud said. "Unfortunately, staying healthy continues to be an issue as we have lots of kids inured and sick. Going into this week vs. MDCV, we certainly want to be as close as possible to 100%".
