The Frontenac Raider football squad has been named this weeks "Craw-Kan Team of the Week" from the Southeast Kansas area for their 14-7 victory over CNC league rival Colgan on Friday night in week five of the football season.

"This was a big win for our program. We have a lot of confidence right now, and hopefully we can play with that type of confidence throughout the rest of the season." Frontenac head coach, Mark Smith said. "We still have a lot of work to do, but we are putting ourselves in a good position."

The game was scoreless before Frontenac scored on a 29-yard touchdown pass caught by Ryan Long from quarterback Austin Seward as time expired in the second quarter to give the Raiders a 6-0 lead at the half.

Frontenac took advantage of turnovers and a short field in the third quarter and took a 14-0 lead after a one yard touchdown run from running back Keaton Bolinger and two point conversion. The Raiders held a 14-0 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

Colgan drove 94 yards and scored it's first points of the game with 5:14 remaining in the game on a two yard touchdown pass to Ian Duncan from Ryan Cedeno to cut the lead to 14-7.

Frontenac's Luten Warrick would recover the onside kick and the Raiders would gain three first downs to run out the clock and win for the second time against Colgan in three years (2012, 2014). Frontenac's Smith took a 2-1 advantage over his dad, Chuck, since arriving as head coach at FHS in the fall of 2012. Smith has been very happy with his teams leadership and start in 2014.

"This team has worked really hard in the offseason and at practice to contribute to our teams success. Our kids put the team first and, they are seeing the rewards with an undefeated start. Our leadership has been one of our team's strengths this season". Smith said.

Frontenac moved to 5-0 on the season and is currently ranked fourth in the state in class 4A-II. Frontenac will play at Girard (1-4) this week before they open district play in week seven. If Frontenac makes the 4A-II playoffs in 2014, they will have made the playoffs in six different classes since playoff era (1A, 2A, 2-1A, 3A, 4A, 4A-II). The Raiders last won a state title in 1994 (2-1A), who were honored on their 20th anniversary at Friday's game, and haven't played in a state championship football game since 2000 (3A).   CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO AUDIO OF FRONTENAC CRAW-KAN TEAM OF THE WEEK.
