Washburn Football announces Class of 2014

TOPEKA, Kan. -- Follow all the Washburn Ichabod football signing information as their National Letter of Intents and institutional agreements arrive on campus. All of the future Ichabods' information will be updated as they come across the fax machine and have been verified by school administrators. The Ichabods are coming off their 10th-straight winning season going 8-3 during the 2013 campaign. Stay tuned right here and on twitter at @wusports as new signees come in.

2014 Ichabod High School signees

Dane Anderson - DE • 6-3 • 220 • Atchison, Kan. • Atchison HS
As a senior he recorded 58 tackles with 35 solo stops earning all-league honors on the defensive line and honorable mention honors on the offensive line … as a junior he recorded four catches for 70 yards … also participated in track and wrestling … son of Erik and Sharon Anderson … anticipated major is electrical engineering or business.

Cory Ballentine - DB • 6-0 • 170 • Topeka, Kan. • Shawnee Heights HS
Played football his junior and senior seasons … participated in track and was part of the state champion 4x400m relay team and finished second in the 4x100m relay team in the state meet as a junior … as a sophomore was part of the state championship 4x400m relay team … son of Karl and Denise Vaughn.

Scott Birkinsha - LB • 5-10 • 185 • Atchison, Kan. • Atchison County Community HS
Named all-league at both linebacker and running back as a senior … a state qualifier in wrestling as a junior and sophomore … named all-league special teams and all-league honorable mention at linebacker as a junior … son of Nelson and Karen Birkinsha … anticipated major is business management.

Dawson DeShazo - DE • 6-4 • 205 • Silver Lake, Kan. • Silver Lake HS
Started at wide receiver and tight end for the state champion Eagles … as a junior he led the team in total sacks … finished 11th in the state 400m run and was the league champion … son of David and Tracey DeShazo … anticipated major is criminal justice.

Kevin Hampton - RB • 5-10 • 180 • St. Louis, Mo. • Lafayette HS
As a senior he played in four games rushing for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns … as a junior he rushed for 500 yards and had 25 tackles, a sack and an interception as a safety … as a sophomore he rushed for 500 yards and recorded 40 tackles with a sack and an interception … son of Damon Hampton and Khalia Howard … anticipated major is sports management.

Jake Humphrey - FS • 6-1 • 200 • Savannah, Mo. • Savannah HS
Played linebacker, tight end and fullback for the Savages … son of Bruce and Karen Humphrey … anticipated major is political science … his dad Bruce played football at Missouri Western and his uncle Doug played at Missouri Southern … grandfather Richard played football at Missouri.

Semaj Johnson - TE • 6-3 • 221 • Junction City, Kan. • Junction City HS
Will play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl … a two year starter … also plays basketball … son of Cedric and Janice Johnson … anticipated major is athletic training.

Colt Kennedy - WR * 6-2 * 210 * Berryton, Kan. * Shawnee Heights HS
As a senior he was a first team all-state selection and a first team all-city and Top 11 all-city pick after recording 691 receiving yards on 39 catches and four touchdowns leading the team in receiving ... finished his career third in all-time receiving yards and third all-time for single season yards and fourth in career catches ... as a junior he had 28 catches for 289 yards earning honorable mention all-league and all-city ... son of Don and Stacy Kennedy ... father player football at Washburn ... mom played softball at Kansas and sister Katelyn currently plays softball at Kansas ... brother Spencer played basketball at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Jerid Ladson - FB • 5-10 • 190 • Topeka, Kan. • Washburn Rural HS
Rushed for 389 yards and four touchdowns as a senior averaging 6.1 yards per carry and then rushed for 230 yards and one score as a junior averaging 6.6 yards per carry … son of John and Sara Ladson … anticipated major is business.

Bob Marco - OL • 6-4 • 305 • Wentzille, Mo. • Timberland HS
Named first team all-league, all-district and second team all-metro and all-state as a senior and was named Timberland's Offensive Player of the Year and the Offensive Lineman of the Year … as a junior he was a first team all-league, first team all-district and named the Offensive Lineman of the Year at Timberland … also named to the all-academic offensive team … son of Bob and Mary Marco … anticipated major is Kinesiology.

Gabe Peterson - QB • 6-2 • 200 • Littleton, Colo. • Arapahoe HS
Passed for 2,106 yards completing 128 of 211 passing attempts with 17 touchdowns and rushed for 270 yards and four touchdowns as a senior … as a junior he was 12 of 17 for 169 yards and one touchdown … started career at tight end as a sophomore … team won freshman league championships in football, basketball and baseball … son of Scott and Sue Peterson.

Wyatt Porter - QB • 6-3 • 220 • Jefferson City, Mo. • Helias HS
As a senior he completed 175 of 277 passing attempts for 2,830 yards and 34 touchdowns while rushing for 750 yards on 128 attempts and six touchdowns en route to first team all-state honors as well as being named the Class 4 Offensive Player of the Year … as a junior he was 196 of 326 passing for 2,593 yards and 27 touchdowns and rushed for 535 yards on 153 attempts and eight touchdowns earning second team all-state honors … son of Tony and Donna Porter … anticipated major is psychology.

Casey Slaughter - RB • 5-10 • 220 • Lee's Summit, Mo. • Lee's Summit HS
Rushed for 1,200 years earning first team all-league, all-district and second team all-state honors and was named his team captain and most valuable player … as a junior he rushed for 1,356 yards earning all-district and first team all-league honors … rushed for 700 yards and was honorable mention all-league as a sophomore and rushed for 200 yards earning freshman of the year honors … son of Lennie Slaughter … anticipated major is physical education.

Kastin Spencer - DE • 6-2 • 215 • Ardmore, Okla. • Plainview HS
As a senior he recorded 13 sacks with more than 75 tackles and one safety en route to all-state honors at defensive end and was a second team all-Oklahoma honorable mention selection … placed sixth in the state regional wrestling tournament … son of Michael and Yvette Spencer … anticipated major is Kinesiology.

Eric Tate - PK • 6-2 • 165 • Tonganoxie, Kan. • Tonganoxie HS
Connected on 3 of 4 field goal attempts with his long coming on a 36-yard attempt … was 43 of 53 on extra point attempts earning second team all-league honors and honorable mention all-state honors … also recorded 21 tackles with an interception … as a junior he was 4 of 6 on field goal attempts hitting 14 of 18 extra point attempts earning honorable mention all-league honors … recorded 18 tackles and added six receptions for 190 yards and a touchdown … started eight games at cornerback as a sophomore collecting 20 tackles … son of Doug and Jennifer Tate … anticipated major is accounting.

Austin Tillman - LB • 6-1 • 200 • Topeka, Kan. • Topeka HS
Earned first team all-city, all-league honors at linebacker and running back … an all-state selection at linebacker picked in the top 33 in the state earning Topeka's top 11 honors in the city … named the league's defensive player of the year and Topeka's defensive player of the year … as a junior he was first team all-city and all-league at linebacker and a second team all-city and all-league pick at running back … earned top 11 city pick in wrestling finishing fourth in state … as a sophomore he was a first team all-city and all-league pick at linebacker earning defensive newcomer of the year honors earning honorable mention all-state … in wrestling he finished sixth in state and fifth in the state powerlifting competition … son of Troy Tillman and Christa Cutshall … antipated major is criminal justice.

Darian Trout-Brown - DB • 5-7 • 170 • Lincoln, Neb. • Lincoln Southeast HS
Missed majority of senior season after suffering injury on first play of the second game of the season … was named all-city as a junior and senior and honorable mention all-city as a freshman at cornerback … son of Derek Brown and Amy Trout … father played football at Nebraska and for the New Orleans Saints.

Cooper Zeller - DL • 6-3 • 285 • Holton, Kan. • Holton HS
As a senior he was a first team all-league on both the defensive and offensive lines, all-county and all-state selection for the Wildcats … as a junior he also earned all-league honors on the defensive and offensive lines, all-county and all-state honorable mention accolades … was league champion in wrestling finishing third in the region and fifth at state … son of Daniel and Michelle Zeller … anticpated major is biology.

Will be a sophomore this fall for the Ichabods … appeared in eight games as a freshman recording nine catches for 103 yards and one touchdown … named first team all-league and was an honorable mention all-state wide receiver.

Zeke Palmer - QB • 6-1 • 215 • Wichita, Kan. • Bishop Carroll HS • Butler CC
Will be a sophomore for the Ichabods this fall … as a senior at Bishop Carroll he led the team to a 13-0 record and passed for 2,333 yards with 22 touchdowns completing 72 percent of his passes while running for 533 yards and 13 touchdowns … named all-state and played in the Kansas Shrine Bowl and was named the West squad's MVP in the game played at Washburn after rushing for 68 yards and completing 14 of 20 passes for 175 yards … earned Kpreps All-State recognition at quarterback in Class 5A and was named a Top 11 player by The Topeka Capital-Journal and The Wichita Eagle.

Billy Teters - FB • 6-1 • 225 • LaCygne, Kan. • Prairie View HS • Coffeyville CC
Will be a junior this fall for the Ichabods … named second team all-Jayhawk Community College as a sophomore … majoring in criminal justice.

Zack Weekley - LB • 5-11 • 215 • Topeka, Kan. • Hayden HS • Hutchinson CC
Will be a junior this fall for the Ichabods … was named special teams player of the week three times and the defensive player of the week two times … named the defensive player of the regional championship game and was the defensive most valuable player of the Salt City Bowl after recording nine tackles with a tackle for loss and a 33-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown … had 63 tackles during the season overall … at Hayden High School as a senior he was an all-city top 11 pick by the Topeka Capital-Journal and was a first team all-city pick at linebacker and a second team all-city selection at fullback … named first team all-state at linebacker by VarsityKansas.com … son of Rusty and Marcy Weekley … anticipated major is Kinesiology.
