Sports in Kansas is pleased to announce its Sports in Kansas Offensive Player of the Year & Defensive Player of the Year from 6A to Six-Man. SIK also has selected an All-Classes Coach of the Year and Classification Coaches of the Year on another feature coming out. Selections made through votes from a statewide panel of media who regularly cover high school football and represents all areas and classes. This year, over 20 media members were part of the committee with Chet Kuplen of Sports in Kansas and Conor Nicholl of Sports in Kansas calculating the votes and the final selections. Input was also gathered from coaches, observations and statistics.

Class 3A Offensive Player of the Year: Eli Rowland, Andale, RB

Andale senior Eli Rowland led the Indians to a dominant 12-0 season and Class 3A state title. Andale has won back-to-back 3A state titles and has Kansas’ longest current winning streak at 25 games. Rowland delivered 1,400 rushing and 450 receiving yards. Andale averaged 51.1 points per game.

In the 20-0 state championship versus Perry-Lecompton, Rowland scored on runs from seven and three yards. He delivered 29 carries for 147 yards and two TDs.

In a 49-0 semifinal win versus Wichita Collegiate, Rowland returned two punts for touchdowns and added a pair of rushing scores. He also delivered 20 carries for 106 yards. Class 3A Defensive Player of the Year: Hayden Robb, Perry-Lecompton, LB

Like Tonganoxie senior Branden Martin, Robb cleared the rare 500-career tackle plateau. He helped P-L finish as 3A runner-up to Andale in the last two falls. The 5-foot-10, 225-pound Robb tallied 515 career tackles. This season, he delivered 139 tackles, 10 TFLs, 3.5 sacks and picked off a pass.

P-L finished 11-2. That included two wins versus Holton (28-14, 22-9) and a victory versus Topeka Hayden (20-7). In the state finale, Andale beat P-L, 20-0. Andale had scored at least 40 points per game in all other contests. Holton was 9-0 when not playing Perry-Lecompton and averaged 48.1 points in those victories. Overall, the Kaws forced 24 turnovers and allowed just 10.3 points per game. Four Kaws finished with at least 100 tackles.

Robb has picked up offers from a variety of NAIAs: Baker, Benedictine, Tabor, William Penn and Mount Marty. Robb carried a 4.0 GPA and has placed at state wrestling.
