This weeks Craw-Kan Team of the Week from Southeast Kansas is the Girard High School football team led by head coach Neal Philpot. GHS knocked off previously unbeaten Columbus on Friday to give the school its first playoff victory since 2016.
The Trojans entered district play as the underdog but have a very decieving record with two of their losses coming to unscheduled/unfamilar opponents. Girard won the Friday contest 29-18 after losing this same game in week three of the season, 26-7.
Sophomore quarterback Luke Niggamen was huge for the Trojans accounting for three total touchdowns, two touchdown passes and a touchdown run. Niggament had td passes to Mason Huebner and Logan Thomas in the game. Connor Olivera also scored a 17-yard touchdown for the games first score. Girard has one of the better offensive and defensive lines in Southeast Kansas this season but turnovers have nagged the Trojans in losses this year. When the Trojans can put it all togehter they are a very difficult out for anyone. Garrett Humble also had a field goal in the contest for Girard.
Girard (4-5) moves onto the second found of the playoffs where they will face Prairie View on the road in LaCygne on Friday. PV knocked off Caney Valley 44-16 in the first round and is 7-1 on the year.
