This weeks Craw-Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week from Southeast Kansas is the Girard HIgh School football team.
Girard, led by head coach Neal Philpot, was down 12-0 in the second quarter before scoring 20 unanswered points in the game to win 20-12 over St. Mary's Colgan on Thursday in Pittsburg. Caden Lallamend had a huge night with three total touchdowns in the game, two passing that went to Connor Olivera who had a big-time game for the Trojans. Gabe Davenport also had a huge interception in the game for the Trojans. The offensive and defensive lines, big and physical for the Trojans, paved the way for the season opening victory. Luke Niggamen also had a key punt that pinned Colgan deep one the one yard line late in the fourth quarter.
The Trojans noteworthy week one victory has opened the eyes to many in 3A and the CNC as the team looks to be much improved. It marked the first time that Girard had played Colgan since 2017. For years it was a mainstay game that was always the fiirst game of the year especially some of the 1990s battles with Craig Crespino and Chuck Smith.
After talking with several people in the media and around the program, many believe that the three quarters of football the Trojans had in the second, third and fourth were the best three quarters of football they've played in the last 3-4 seasons. Congrats to the Trojans on their week one victory from Craw-Kan!
GHS is at home this Friday as they host Baxter Springs (0-1).
Producers Co-Op Farm-Store is also a proud supporter of Girard Trojan Athletics with Sports in Kansas.
