Sports in Kansas has partnered with World Class Sports in Pittsburg, Kansas to bring their first ever baseball/softball combine/showcase to life on Sunday February 9th in Pittsburg, Kansas.
The purpose of this event is to collect as much info and data on prospects across the state of Kansas (with location Oklahoma/Missouri/Arkansas are also invited to attend). We have also invited several college coaches and scouts to attend. Another key purpose of this event is a media event for Sports in Kansas. Sports in Kansas will be there conducting interviews, pictures, video with players for preseason All-State Coverage. Last years all-state picks (1st Team, 2nd Team or Honorable Mention get 10$ off discount) are encouraged to attend this, even if they dont want tested. It allows us to get a good idea on who to look for in over the 2020 season and to have a lot of content to post on baseball/softball for preseason coverage. While softball and baseball are becoming more and more club level based to get major offers, there are still a lot of players out there that don't have the opportunities as others over the summer to travel so we have made an affordable event possible to help get some under the radar players attention. There are alot of good opportunities in Kansas besides just Division I and players (baseball specifically) don't have to be Division I just to get drafted or get an affordable scholarship. Baseball scholarships are very tricky and are partials at a higher level, so we want to make sure kids weigh in all their options. There are a lot of valuable opportunities from multiple levels whether thats junior college, NAIA, D2, D1 etc. There will be prospects from all levels at this event, whether that is a Division I talented kid thats looking to get drafted or a kid looking to play at the NAIA level in Kansas. We are here to help at all levels. There will also be players from 1A all the way to 6A as we've been doing this long enough in multiple sports to realize there is truly talent at all levels. Our goal is to not only give high school baseball and softball some promotion in the state of Kansas but to also collect as much data as we can on kids to get out to colleges with all the kids being tested unbiased the same way at the same place. We do understand that kids are in other sports this time of the year so even if you're not coming to compete or be tested, we would still like to invite you as a returning all-state player to our media event (registration is the same, there is a spot for a $10 discount for the all-state players that come). This is also a good idea for younger players who want to get an idea of where they are at and what they need to work on. This isn't just for guys/girls immediate college ready as it can be for anyone that eventually wants to play college baseball/softball even if that is three years down the road. It'll give you a chance at competing. Players will also be provided with an event T-shirt.
Media coverage will be conducted by Chet Kuplen of Sports in Kansas along with SIK staff members. The importance of this is it is ran by Kansas people with a Kansas media company who provides year round coverage of all sports. We are doing this because of the lack of exposure for Kansas high school kids. We are here to help the kids and this is not a fly by night money collector of a satellite camp popping into town and promising to put you in a database with thousands of names to send to college coaches. We arent here to promise anything but we are here to give you an opportunity. Performance Testing will be handled by Nate Arnold of World Class Sports and his staff that work in their Pittsburg or Topeka location, several of which either played collegiate or professional baseball. World Class also has a Topeka Indoor Facility and Location. Arnold is a former Division I player at the University of Kansas that came up through the Mac and Seitz program (10+ years) in Kansas City. He also played at Pittsburg State where he led the Gorillas in batting average for two seasons and was a four-time all-state pitcher and catcher in high school for St. Mary's Colgan with a fastball at 90 MPH. He now trains baseball and softball players regionally at World Class Sports in Pittsburg.
World Class Sports has four indoor batting cages, a ProBatter Pitching SImulator and is a multipurpose sports facility with a turf space used for baseball/softball, soccer etc. The facility welcomes teams or individials to train year round. The idea of the facility came when several local players were traveling hours each weekend for BP and training multiple times a week. WCS has filled that need.
