Sports in Kansas 2019 1A Offensive Player of the Year: Kamble Haverkamp, Centralia
Haverkamp, Centralia's single wing quarterback, led Centralia to an 12-1 season and the Class 1A state championship. The 6-foot, 170-pound Haverkamp has an offer from Bethel College. He rushed 246 times for 2,385 yards and 35 scores. As well, he completed 29 of 66 passes for 471 yards and six scores. In his career, Haverkamp rushed for 4,730 yards and 66 touchdowns, and passed for 1,326 yards and 19 scores. Haverkamp has Centralia's single season rushing yards and touchdown records, along with both marks for a career. Centralia averaged 40.3 points a contest and defeated Smith Center, 18-14, in the 1A title game behind a big game from Haverkamp. He helped end the Redmen's 22-game winning streak. He scored all three touchdowns in the title game, including the game winner with under a minute to play to knock off the Redmen.

Sports in Kansas 2019 1A Defensive Player of the Year: Jared Casey, Plainville
The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Casey was a four-year starter for the Cardinals, which finished as state finalist and then three straight state semifinal berths. Plainville played Smith Center all four years in the state semifinals. In his career, Casey had 369 tackles, nine interceptions, eight fumble recoveries, five forced fumbles and three sacks. Casey started his offensive career at tackle, and then moved to fullback in his sophomore year. He finished with 400 carries for 2,584 yards and 42 scores. Casey delivered 50 catches for 608 yards and six TDs.
This year, Casey missed two games with a hand injury and still led the team with 109 tackles. He had 7.5 tackles for loss. Plainville allowed 62 points in the two contests Casey missed, including a 40-14 regular season defeat to Smith Center. In the other 10 contests, Plainville permitted 130 points (13 per game). The Cardinals, with Casey, lost 20-19 at Smith Center in the state semifinals. Casey has several offers, including Fort Hays. The youngest of seven children, Casey also has 1,062 career points in basketball and is a 50-plus foot thrower in the shot put.
