2019 Sports in Kansas 4A Offensive Player of the Year: Daniel Jackson, Bishop Miege

Jackson, a Minnesota commit, had 54 catches for 1,270 yards and 16 scores after he took over for Jafar Armstrong, now at Notre Dame. Jackson suffered an early season injury as a junior and missed the year. This fall, he delivered 74 catches for 1,511 yards and a state record 27 receiving scores. Jackson had a seminal performance in a regular season 42-35 win versus Mill Valley, the eventual 5A state champion. He scored touchdowns rushing, receiving and on a kick return. In the final minute, Jackson returned a kickoff 85 yards for a score. Jackson finished his career with 130 catches for 2,818 yards and 44 TDs. Miege has tied a state record with its sixth straight state title. Jackson is up for the Otis Taylor Award, given to the top receiver in the KC Metro area.

2019 Sports in Kansas 4A Defensive Player of the Year: Cody Stufflebean, McPherson

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Stufflebean helped McPherson to an 11-1 record and third straight state semifinal showing. Stufflebean, a Kansas State commit, finished with 44 tackles, 31 solo. He delivered eight tackles for loss, eight sacks, 28 quarterback pressures, three blocked punts and a forced fumble. Stufflebean earned AVCTL Division II defensive MVP honors. Stufflebean had offers from Colorado, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Army West Point, Air Force, Toledo, Kent State, South Dakota, Ohio and Akron. Stufflebean started 10 games, though only played significantly in eight because of injury. McPherson, with veteran defensive coordinator Chet Harlin, led Class 4A with just 8.3 points allowed a contest. Stufflebean also provided an offensive lift at tight end with 12 catches for 193 yards and tied for the team lead with six receiving TDs. Stufflebean is a three-sport standout and also very high academically.
