Thomas, Dorsey take home Sports in Kansas 6A POY Honors

2019 Sports in Kansas 6A Offensive Player of the Year: Ky Thomas, Topeka

Topeka High's Ky Thomas rushed for 3,009 yards, sixth all-time in Kansas history for a single season. He earned a bevy of awards, including Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year and  Top 11 all classes. Thomas, a Minnesota signing, was a four-year starter, three seasons at running back. He finished with 7,703 career rushing yards, second all-time in state annals behind 8,472 from Wichita Collegiate's DeAngelo Evans from 1992-95. Thomas was also seventh in Kansas history with 95 career rushing touchdowns. Topeka finished 10-2 and lost to eventual champion Derby in the state semifinals. The Trojans advanced to the semis for the first time since 1973 and tied the best finish in school annals. Topeka averaged 44.8 points per contest.

2019 Sports in Kansas 6A Defensive Player of the Year: Tyler Dorsey, Derby

Derby has posted back-to-back perfect seasons and had one of the more dominant years in recent state annals. Derby went 13-0 and outscored opponents, 701-155, and by far led 6A in scoring offense and defense. Derby won every game by at least 21 points. Defensive lineman Tyler Dorsey was AVCTL Division I Defensive MVP with 89 tackles, 28 for loss. He finished his career with 160 tackles, 48 for loss. Derby's Isaac Keener was the 6A Defensive Player of the Year last season, and Dorsey had 58 tackles, 18 for loss, for a team that allowed just 103 points.
