This week's Craw-Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week from Southeast Kansas is the Frontenac High School football team led by head coach Mark Smith.
Although not the outcome they wanted, the Raiders lost 14-6 in the 3A quarterfinal (round of eight) on Friday night in Topeka to Hayden Catholic High School but the Raiders had an oustanding 2019 season. Led by 16 seniors, the Raiders finished 10-1 on the season and went unbeaten in CNC league action, despite their not being an official CNC league champion. The Raiders picked up first team CNC honors this season from Jake Beckmann (QB), Cruz Blair (OL), Alex Johnson (RB), Ryan Raio (DB), Cale Bridwell (K), Collin McCartney (DE), Drew Bollinger (LB). Second team honors went to Landon Dean (DE), Kaleb Kroenke (OL), Cale Bridwell (WR), Caleb Hemby (OL). Ty Gates (DB) and Brant Chance (DB) also earned all-league honorable mention.
The defense of the Raiders, led by defensive coordinator John Palumbo, gave up just 85 points over the course of 11 games this season. That shoul be a strong team returning with four defensive line starters being sophomores this season including McCartney, Dean, Blair and Lane Franklin. Dean is a rising FBS prospect at 6'4" and 220 pounds that visited Kansas State on Saturday after the completion of his sophomore season on Friday night.
The Raiders also beat teams from three different states this season as they played Commerce (OK), Richmond (MO) in addition to their nine other Kansas opponents. 2019 marks the first year Southeast Kansas area (CNC, SEK, TRL, Pioneer, TVL) has not had a team alive in the semifinals since 2012.
Craw-Kan would like to congratulate the Raiders on a very successful 2020 season.
