This Weeks Craw-Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week is the Southeast High School Lancers. While the Lancers didnt get a win this past week, we wanted to honor them as a turnaround team over the 2019 season.
Southeast went 7-3 this season and won their first playoff game in nine years (a 2 OT win over Osage City two weeks ago) and captured their first league title in the history of the program. The Lancers ended their season as Humboldt (10-0) defeated them 60-14 in the second round of the playoffs last Friday. Zaden Hendricks had over 1,300 yards rushing for the Lancers, which is believed to be the most rushing yards in a season in more than 20 years. Bryce Petersen added over 800 on the ground and 600 through the air in 2019. Jakob Tavernero and Gage Oplotnik combined to make over 150 stops to lead the defense. Petersen had four interceptions on defense while Reece Jacobs and Tavernero each had three.
Southeast seniors went 0-9 as freshman, 0-7 as sophomores and 4-5 last year. It was quite the turnaround for the program under Jerrad Hansen with a 7-3 finish as TRL champion.
