Sports in Kansas has released its 2019 All-State Softball Team. Selections were finalized by Chet Kuplen of Sports in Kansas with input from several media members in Kansas, this is not the coaches association team or just its members. Teams were also selected after the conclusion of the season. While the selection process is never perfect we encourage cooperation throughout the season with info/stats sent into Sports in Kansas at sportsinkansas@gmail.com.

2019 Sports in Kansas 5A Softball Co-Player of the Year

Jaycee Ginter Shawnee Heights & Aniya Holt, Shawnee Heights

Shawnee Heights has won three consecutive 5A state titles. Junior infielder Aniya Holt, junior pitcher Jaycee Ginter had outstanding seasons along with several other Thunderbird all-state selections. Ginter and Holt share Sports in Kansas co-Player of the Year honors and were both first team all-state selections in 2018.

Holt delivered a three-run homer that broke a scoreless tie in an eventual 12-1 victory in the state title game against Bishop Carroll. Holt is one of the best power hitters in the state as she crushed the ball in 2019 with 14 homers and a team leading 48 RBI. She also had five doubles.

Ginter was outstanding this year with a 14-0 record fanning 117 batters in 70 innings pitched. She had an ERA of 0.80 on the season. She allowed just 33 hits all season. Teammate Paige Petefish, last years Sports in Kansas Pitcher of the Year, was also very dominant as she struck out 71 in 49.0 innings pitched for a 8-1 record on the season.

Abbey Fisher, another all-state selection for Shawnee Heights, is also in the conversation here as she hada team leading 39 hits and 17 doubles with 43 RBI. SHe also hit five home runs.

Other players considered for top honors as POY were Reagan Smith of Bishop Carroll, Kaylin Watkins and Hadley Kershen of Bishop Carroll in a loaded classification.

The Shawnee Heights Booster Club would like to congratulate the T-Birds on all of their success. Congrats on another 5A state title! Proud to supporter Shawnee Heights Softball!

2019 Sports in Kansas 5A Coach of the Year

Tara Griffith, Shawnee Heights, 5A State Champions

The T-Birds have captured three straight Class 5A state championships and second in a row under second year HC Tara Griffith. SH, ranked fifth nationally in the preseason by USA Today, entered the year with 50 straight victories and then split a doubleheader against longtime powerhouse Bishop Carroll this spring, which ended a 66-game winning streak. The teams were heavily favored to meet up for the state title, and the T-Birds delivered a 12-1 finale victory. It marked the second straight year SH had defeated Bishop Carroll for the state title. Shawnee Heights went 22-1, and Bishop Carroll was 22-3. Before the state title, SH defeated Lansing, 10-0, and a solid Maize South squad, 8-3. Griffith's squad hit .436 as a team with 39 home runs and scored 284 runs. Her pitchers combined for a 0.88 ERA and struck out 188 batters in 119 innings pitched. Her team also fielded at 0.943 on the season and committed just 26 errors in 23 games. While stars have shined on this team it was an overall team effort in delivering the third straight state title in 5A for SH.

The Shawnee Heights Booster Club would like to congratulate the T-Birds on all of their success. Congrats on another 5A state title! Proud to supporter Shawnee Heights Softball!
