The Craw Kan "Your Community Technology Partner" Team of the Week from the Southeast Kansas area is the Frontenac High School Raiders football team, led by head coach Mark Smith.
The Raiders improved to 2-1 this season with a 26-0 win over Commerce (OK) on the road Friday. Ryan Raio scored on a 50 yard TD pass from Jake Beckmann and Cade Chastain also added a rushing touchdown in the first half as the Raiders led 12-0 at the break. Beckmann threw for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Alex Johnson also scored twice for the Raiders on the ground. Frontenac had just over 100 yards as a unit offensively. The Frontenac defense, led by defensive coordinator John Palumbo, has also been solid all season only allowing eight points in their two wins and only 22 points all year through three contests.
Frontneac improved to 2-1 on the season and will open up district play Friday at home against Galena. Last year the Raiders were the 4A-II state runnerup. Friday begins a five week district play format that is new to 2018, where the top four of six teams in the district make the playoffs. Also along with Galena and Frontenac in that district are Baxter Springs, Parsons, Caney Valley, and Columbus. Caney Valley, Parsons and Galena are all 3-0 on the year, while Frontenac is 2-1, Baxter 1-2, and Columbus 0-3.
