The Nex-Tech Wireless Western Kansas Athlete of the Month for their play over the month of August, even though only one week of football falls into that category, is Plainville junior quarterback Jordan Finnesy.
Finnesy, a 6-0, 170-pound, junior, had a big night in week one on Friday as he led the Cardinals to a 31-14 victory over MCL rival Norton. The dual-threat signal caller passed for 178 yards and three touchdowns through the air, while adding another 88 yards rushing on the ground. He also had nine tackles on defense. Cody Crawford also had an outstanding night on Friday in which he had five receptions for 175 yards, three of which went for touchdowns. Kobe Speiss, Tanner Copeland and Ryan Junkenmeier also all had at least 10 stops, as Jared Casey added nine.
Finnesy had a breakout campaign last year as a sophomore in which he rushed for over 1,200 and passed for over 1,200.
Nex-Tech Wireless would like to congratulate Jordan on a solid start in 2018. The Cardinals (1-0, 1-0 MCL), led by head coach Grant Stephenson, have a huge game this week against another MCL power in Phillipsburg. Phillipsburg was the 2015 2-1A state champion, while Plainville was the 2016 2-1A state runner-up. Plainville is now in the new1A, while Phillipsburg is in the new 2A.
