The Labette Bank Athlete of the Month for the Southeast Kansas area for his play last month (March) is Pittsburg High School senior basketball player Marque English.
English helped the Dragons to their first final four finish in 21 years as they took third place in 5A last month. The senior forward was named the Sports in Kansas 5A Player of the Year, All-State in 5A and All-Classes All-State 1st Team. He averaged 20 points per game and eight rebounds per game on one of the more balanced teams in Kansas. It wasn't all English either as the Dragons had several pick up postseason honors of some sort that included Chase Curtis, Gavyn Elkamil, Drew Roelfs, Jerek Butcher and Trenton Austin. Head Coach Kiley Roelfs and the Dragons finished as the SEK League champions for the third consecutive year with a 21-4 record.
Labette Bank would like to congratulate Marque and the PHS Boys Basketball Team on an outstanding 2017-2018 season.
