The Labette Bank Athlete of the Month from the Southeast Kansas coverage area for their play over the last month is GIrard High School senior baketball player Sydnee Crain.

Crain, a senior point guard for the Trojans, has exploded this season to one of the top scoring guards in the state of Kansas. She eclipsed the 1,000 point mark at the Wilson County Classic after leading the Trojans to their third straight tourney title. The two-time all-stater that helped the Trojans to a state title last season is averaging 23.2 points per game, 5.7 rebounds per game, 4.4 steals per game, 2.5 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. Over the last seven games Crain has been on fire averaging 28.7 points per game. Crain, known as a fierce defender, ball distrubitor and tempo control player, has become known as the primary scorer on this years team with the graduation of all-state players Ashley Ray (Kansas State) and Calea Augustin (Neosho County). Crain has signed to play at Pittsburg State next season and is also an all-state selection in volleyball and softball.

Girard, led by head coach Brad Herlocker, is currently ranked #10 in the 4A-II Girls KBCA Poll.

Labette Bank Athlete of the Month Nomination Criteria

-Athlete or Team (girl(s)or boy(s)) must play in the CNC, Pioneer, SEK, or TRL Leagues in Kansas.

-Selection will be based on the play of that athlete over the period of that month. All stats and info must be provided. 

-All nominations are accepted with selection process being handled and finalized only by @sportsinkansas. Coaches are encouraged to nominate their own athletes or athletes from opposing schools. 

-Nominations MUST be emailed. Please email Chet Kuplen at sportsinkansas@gmail.com during the last seven days of the month to nominate your athlete!
